Rhythmic Gymnastics, one of the most aesthetic, elegant, and beautiful sports, came into existence in the 1960s. The First World Championships in Rhythmic Gymnastics was organized in Budapest in 1963 and it became part of the Olympic Games in 1984, part of Commonwealth Games in 1990, and of Asian Games in 1974. In India, the First National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship was organized in 1989 at Kottayam. It is getting popular in India. The young girls are taking to this beautiful sport.
