PSYCHOLOGY OF MEDITATION (A PRACTICAL GUIDE TO SELF-DISCOVERY)

Author: Dr. Akbar Husain, Dr. Asif Hasan

Meditation is a spiritual exercise in which a person discovers the essence of his or her being or the deepest meaning by which people live. Meditation is the process for the development of inner peace and attaining mental health. Meditation has been practiced within religious traditions since ancient times. Today mindfulness-based meditative practices have become popular within the Western medical and psychological community, mainly due to the observable and positive impact on patients suffering from stress-related health conditions. Yogic traditions have suggested various processes of doing meditation. Becoming silent is the true heart of meditation. During the process of meditation complete silence is observed. Meditation is assumed to control our senses and connect us to the Supreme. Japa or Chanting of mantra ' Aum ' activates the mind and consequently, we feel mentally healthy. Aum is the active word of God.
