THE DAUGHTER DEFICIT COGNITIVE REENGINEERING OF MISOGYNY

Author: Promila Batra

The women in India enjoyed a very high status and were treated at par with goddesses in the golden age . The religious epics are full of respect for women and depict a picture of her being mentally very strong. However, the Iron Age witnessed a deterioration in the status of women characterized by male supremacy and subordination of women. This has led to multiple forms of discrimination against women, rapes, molestation, intrapersonal violence, domestic violence, dowry deaths, stalking, feticide, infanticide, etc. Many have held multiple invasions in India and the threats from these inhabited outsiders as the major cause of the emergence of social evils like Parda, Sati, and Jauhar as means to assure the safety and chastity of women. However, there may be many more deep-rooted social issues responsible for the current poor status of women all around the globe. Psychologically speaking, the issue pertains to the unequal exercise of power amongst men and women throughout the world. Gender equality and equity are now global concerns. Discrimination against women including violence is perhaps the most pervasive and unaddressed violation of human rights. The agenda of women's equality is a universal agenda and there is a need for many agencies to come forward and unite with the government to work on this noble mission of raising the status of women. The major purpose of conducting the research on the declining sex ratio was to understand its causes and prepare a suitable psychological intervention program to fight the menace .
