SCIENTIFIC ASPECTS OF FLEXIBILITY TRAINING

Author: Dr. K. P. Manilal, Dr. Simarjeet Singh Dhillon

Flexibility is the range of motion available in a joint or a group of joints. The r range of motion of a joint is highly specific and varies significantly from one joint to other as well as from one individual to another. The amount of flexibility individuals possess is primarily related to genetic factors, personal activity patterns, and specialized mechanical strain imposed on connective tissues. Because of the specificity of flexibility, it is difficult to precisely indicate what constitutes an ideal level of flexibility and no single flexibility test can be used to evaluate total body flexibility.
