History, Principles and Foundation of Physical Education

Author: Dr. MANDEEP SINGH Nathial

Physical Education is primarily intended to serve practitioners working with mentally retarded individuals, therapeutic recreation students, and impaired youths and professors in colleges and universities. Since sport training is a source and important part of sports preparation, it can also be considered as the structural unit of the entire preparation process. In other words, sports training is to the boxer's preparation process what the filament is to the muscle, or what the neuron is to the nerve system. Health Education aims to provide knowledge and skills to empower pupils to lead healthy lifestyles and to take responsibility for the health and well-being of others and the environment. Another key aim for the programme is to provide pupils with the opportunities to develop and practise good health habits and attitudes. Physical Education represents a 'window of opportunity' not merely for an immediate involvement in activity, but also for the development of skills, knowledge, understandings, values and attitudes that underpin children's ability to access and enjoy physical activity and sport in childhood and in later life. The book is intended to be an all-time companion and guide for disabled persons, their instructors and general readers.
