DEVELOPMENTAL GAMES AND RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES

Author: Dr. S. Dheer, R. S. Saini

The physical activities of the children of a society are a reflection of its culture . However, the Fragmentation of India could not promote a composite culture and physical activities for the children mainly due to a lack of an organized educational system. Thanks to the British that the country was brought under one rule, thereby paving the way for unification and integration of land and culture. The British rulers not only provided an organized educational system but also introduced their cultural activities. Their efforts to curb the surge of Indian culture provided a new range of activities called developmental activities. Obviously, the failure may be attributed to an unsuccessful attempt to replace developmental activities with modern games. It has also been realized that these activities are most economical and effective in involving the entire student community in a small area, However, there has been an acute shortage of literature on this subject. This book is an attempt to provide handy and classified reference material to the teachers and the prospective teachers undergoing training.
